Quality Assurance Specialist I

With quality improvement, reporting, and regulatory initiatives, this position is accountable for data accuracy, patient safety, and regulatory compliance. A clinical quality assurance specialist applies informatics expertise to the management of data, processes, and information systems. The strategic goals of this role would be to improve clinical care, clinical documentation, and reporting for treatment, prevention, and drug administration regimens, workflow procedures, medical decision-making practices, and pay-for-performance programs.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Abstracts medical records for quality improvement or reporting purposes.
  • Review and analyze healthcare data and records, ensuring their accuracy and quality documentation to ensure program compliance.
  • Serves as the primary resource and consultant for healthcare providers regarding the maintenance of an accurate and complete medical record.
  • Ascertains that medical records comply with applicable regulations.
  • Consults with healthcare providers or quality initiative teams to determine if any documentation is missing and ensures that the proper data is entered.
  • Presents data analysis findings to healthcare providers, chairpersons, relevant boards, and quality initiative teams. Additionally, she speaks at conferences, meetings, and other gatherings about the regulations and standards governing medical record documentation.
  • Look for ways to improve services
  • Generate ideas to improve quality and turnaround time
  • Train new staff.
  • Provides education to healthcare providers regarding best practices in patient care, as well as medical record documentation, interpretation, and compliance.
  • Collaborates with medical providers to develop documentation for specific patient populations’ elements of care.
  • Assists quality initiative teams in enhancing the delivery of care and documentation.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of processes that enhance clinical documentation to support patient care, efficient clinical processes, and analytics requirements.

Qualifications and Abilities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suite
  • Ability to multi-tasks and problem solve
  • Great customer service and communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills and result-oriented
  • Initiator and ability to collaborate with Quality Coaches, various hospital teams, and administration.
  • Attentiveness to detail and adherence to deadlines.
  • Self-starter and self-sufficient, this is a remote position but also requires attendance at various hospital meetings.
